David Gepp
David Gepp was born in Belfast in 1948 and has
lived in Wales for the last 20 years. His work is in collections at The
Bibliotheque Nationale, Paris and the National Library of Wales. Recent
commissions producing bodies of work include The Silent Echo, pictures
from a Breton Island described as "this exquisitely poetic body of
work", The Narrow Road to the Deep North, work undertaken in
Northern Ireland, scheduled for the Ulster Museum, Belfast in May 1997, and Venezia
Stenopaeica a study of Venice in colour with a 5x4" pinhole camera. The
making of that work appeared as the critically acclaimed BBC documentary An
Italian Dream. In 1997 he was recipient of the Quantas Travel Bursary, in
199 the Welsh Arts Council Award and lectures in photography at Hereford College
of Art.
Workshop History
Taking another look at the
world via pinhole cameras. Simple methods leading to exquisite pictures.
A chance to work with David, a photographer
whose knowledge of the range of photography’s tools is probably unparalleled.
A practical workshop with an emphasis on taking
and printing. Simple procedures such as pinhole photography will be reviewed,
with the aim to encourage participants to create unique pictures where the
technology of photography doesn’t interfere with a clarity of seeing.
"I
have a burning desire to see what things look like when photographed by
me"
Gary Winogrand
